The
Jewish Radio Mafia: Clark Howard
A.K.A.:
"The Accountant"
From: Atlanta
Age: 50 years
Been in Radio: 18 years
Heard On: WSB 750, "The Clark Howard
Show "
RETIRED TO RADIO: "I had my own
company and people came to buy me. I wasn't for sale,"
says Howard. "People always pay more when you're
not for sale." Able to retire at 32, Howard was
initially asked on radio as a guest.
TOUGH MITZVAH: "My daughter was
about 11 and she was whining to me, 'Why do I have to
do this when you never had to get a bar mitzvah?' I
said, 'You’re right!'" Clark laughs. "She
thought I meant she didn't have to do it, but I had
no idea," he says while rolling his eyes. "There
is no other religion that punishes people as much as
we do."
CITIZEN SOLDIER: Post 9/11, Howard
joined up with the Georgia Guard. "I felt like
I needed to turn the rhetoric into reality," says
Howard. "Some didn't stay [who joined up then],
but I stayed." Howard pauses to consider his prowess
as a soldier. "That’s for better or worse,
I guess," he jokes.
ON GOING TO ISRAEL: "Growing up
in the South, there didn’t used to be that many
Jews down here. It was kind of neat to be somewhere
we’re the majority, and everybody's Jewish."
